Associated Students welcomes the new Director of Recreation, Mark Zakrzewski today. Mark comes from University of Arizona where he was Associate Director of Campus Recreation. He brings 17 years of experience successfully leading comprehensive campus recreation programs, facilities and services including: fitness and wellness, intramural sports, club sports, activity classes, outdoor adventures, youth programs, facilities operations, informal recreation, and aquatics.
Mark began his professional career with the Physical Education and Recreation Department at the University of Oregon. After a wonderful tenure in Eugene, the opportunity for sunshine and continued professional growth led Mark to the University of Arizona where he has served for the past 13 years.
Mark has a tremendous passion and enthusiasm for recreation and firmly believes that a strong recreation program is essential for enhancing the quality of life on a college campus. Among his career accomplishments, Mark cites his significant involvement with two large scale campus recreation center construction projects, his efforts developing student and professional staff and his tenure as the interim Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Arizona as some of his most meaningful contributions.
Mark earned a Master’s degree in exercise and sport science with an emphasis in sports administration from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fort Hays State University. He additionally served as an adjunct faculty instructor in the Fitness and Sports Science Department at Pima Community College in Tucson.
